(but worth it!)From: Carole CommentsI was hesitant at first to look at the Gaited Horse because of the price but fortunately I was able to buy a few back issues on EBAY very cheaply. Now I wish I had ALL of the back issues, plus I also have subscribed. Quality articles don't come cheap. I'm tired of the same old "this breed is the smoothest, kindest, most versatile breed" article that is practically a standard in most horse magazines. Gaited Horse is not like that. There are 2 other magazines that are on the pricey side but are definitely worth the extra cost: Conquistador (my favorite) and Horse Journal. You just can't find that kind of quality content in the other magazines. Conquistador is the only magazine that has had significant and honest coverage of the Puerto Rican Paso Fino breed and other issues like breeding for appearance instead of function from day 1. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Accurate information on gaited horses simply is not easy to come by. I found that out myself while trying to find reliable information on the Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino Horse and the real differences between them and the Paso Colombianos and the American Paso Finos. Both the Gaited Horse and Conquistador strive to educate people on the very difficult (and too often subjective!) area of the various 4-beat gaits our horses perform. As for Horse Journal, they accept no advertising and are the Consumer Reports for the horse world. I trust them for accurate information on horse health and the effectiveness of equine products.
