Welcome to our gaited horse information page on the Missouri Fox Trotter gaited horse breed. At this time we invite everyone to submit their information and history of this particular breed. Missouri Fox Trotter It was established in the 1820s in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri and Arkansas. It was used for endurance riding over rough terrain. The Missouri Fox Trotter is known for its incredible walk. The horse actually walks in the front and trots in the hindered creating a sliding motion. This sliding motion is very smooth that the rider hardly notices any movement. The Missouri Fox Trotter can maintain this gait for long distances. The Missouri Fox Trotter does not have the high action the Saddlebred and Walkers do and the breed society prohibits artificial aids. The modern Fox Trotter is an all-around pleasure and show horse. Today, there are over 15,000 registered Fox Trotters.
