Missouri Fox Trotting Horse |
Gaits:
A fox trot, in which the horse walks with his front feet
and trots with his hind feet, nodding his head in time with the steps; provides
a gliding ride at speeds up to 8 mph. Also,
a long-strided, flat walk, and a rocking-chair lope.
Characteristics:
14 to 16 hands high; well-shaped head with wide-set eyes
and tapering muzzle; medium-length neck; sloping shoulders; reasonably short
back; well-muscled hindquarters; all colors, including tobiano and overo; docile
temperament; sensible.
Where Found:
Nationwide, most popular in Missouri and in Western states.
Uses:
Trail riding (including competitive trail); endurance
riding; shows; exhibitions; parades.
